3 Twin Cities Mississippi River locks closed 22 Jun 12

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing three locks in the Twin Cities to recreational boats Friday because of rising water on the Mississippi River.

The Corp says it expects to close the locks to commercial traffic sometime this weekend.

The lock and dams on the upper and lower St. Anthony Falls and near Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis were last closed to recreational traffic May 28 because of unsafe conditions. They were reopened June 8.

Officials at the Corp’s St. Paul District say it could be a week or longer before the three locks are reopened to recreational traffic.
