Rescue crews work to free trapped worker 27 Jun 12

EDINA, Minn. (AP) – Rescue crews are working to free a worker trapped by a slab of concrete at a construction site in Edina.

Fire Chief Mary Scheerer tells KARE-TV the man was working on the foundation of a house when the soil gave way and he became trapped from the waist down by a cement slab.

Scheerer says it may take at least two hours to free the man, who is conscious. A trauma surgeon has been called to the scene and the man has been given pain medication to cope with his injuries while rescuers work to free him.

First responders from Hopkins, St Louis Park, Eden Prairie and Minneapolis are assisting.
