Winona Mayor Not Happy With Bridge-Rebuild Plans 05 Jul 12

(Winona, MN) — Winona Mayor Jerry Miller is telling Minnesota’s congressional delegation that just fixing the old Highway-43 bridge across the Mississippi River will not address his community’s needs for the future.

Miller says two lanes will not be sufficient — by 2030 the area will need four lanes across the river. MN-Dot has been looking at ways to upgrade the Highway-43 bridge while still preserving its historic parts. Miller suggests one option would be to build another two-lane bridge next to the existing two-lane structure.
