TWINS LOSE IN 11TH,PLAY TONIGHT 07 May 13

Boston shortstop Stephen Drew doubled home a run in the 11th inning to give the Red Sox a 6-5 victory over the visiting Twins. Drew also hit a solo homer and drove in three for the game. Dustin Pedroia and Shane Victorino had solo shots for Boston while David Ortiz doubled in the eighth to extend his hitting streak to 26 games dating back to last season. Clayton Mortensen got the win in relief. Joel Hanrahan blew his second save and left in the ninth with right forearm tightness for the Sox, who ended a three-game slide. Brian Dozier tied the game in the ninth with a solo homer for Minnesota. Justin Morneau had two RBI for the Twins while Jared Burton took the loss in relief. Minnesota has lost three out of four.

The Red Sox are a little thin at the back end of their bullpen. Closer Andrew Bailey has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right biceps. He hasn’t pitched since April 28th, making him eligible to return next week if ready. Alternate closer Joel Hanrahan gave up a game-tying homer in the ninth last night and left with forearm tightness.

The Red Sox and Twins play the second of their four-game series at Fenway Park tonight. Ryan Dempster is slated to start for Boston, while Minnesota hands the ball to Scott Diamond. Both pitchers are 2-and-2 on the season. Coverage begins 5:40 pm on AM 1350 KCHK.
