Nicklas Backstrom scored the only goal of the overtime shootout, leading the Capitals to a 3-2 win over the Wild at the Verizon Center. Alex Ovechkin and Marcus Johansson scored for Washington. Johansson’s goal late in the third period tied the game at 2. Braden Holtby came up with 33 saves in the win plus two in the shootout. The Caps improved to 9-and-7 with their fourth straight win. The Wild got goals from Charlie Coyle and Mikael Granlund. Josh Harding had 25 saves. Minnesota had a three-game win streak snapped and is 9-4-and-4. The Wild are back on the ice tomorrow night to take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
Wild Injury Report
The Wild suffered more than just a loss last night in Washington they also suffered the loss of another defender. Clayton Stoner was lost early in the Thursday’s loss to the Capitals and his return is unknown at this point. The team is already without defenseman Keith Ballard who didn’t make the two game trip as he deals with an upper body injury. Forward Zach Parise was shaken up at the end of last nights game as well after blocking a shot late in regulation but Wild head coach Mike Yeo said after the game he expected Parise to be fine.
