Francis A. Tuma

Francis A. Tuma, age 89 of Lonsdale‚ died on December 14, 2013 in Lonsdale, Minnesota.

Francis Albert Tuma was born on November 7, 1924 on his family farm in Webster Township,

Rice County, Minnesota to Albert J. and Anna (Simek) Tuma. He received the sacraments of

Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation at Most Holy Trinity Church in Veseli. Francis

attended Parochial School, District 45 Country School, Northfield High School, and Humboldt

Business College in Minneapolis. At age 13 he moved with his family to a farm at Union Lake.

After college he worked for Kraft Foods in Minneapolis. On May 17, 1949, Francis married

Marion Koldin at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Lonsdale. They lived in

Minneapolis, later moving to Montgomery where he managed the Cities Service Gas Station and

also worked at Green Giant as a timekeeper. In 1955 they moved to their new home in Lonsdale.

Francis was employed at the Webster Co-Op Dairy at Webster, MN as a bookkeeper and later as

Manager until Webster merged with AMPI at New Prague, MN, where he worked until his

retirement. Francis was a member of the 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1573 in

Montgomery and 4th Degree Council 2023 in New Prague. He served in many offices on both

Councils and was elected into the 4th Degree Hall of Fame in 2003. Francis was also a charter

member of the Lonsdale Lions Club, receiving the Melvin Jones and Helen Keller Awards,

among many others. He was also a member of the FCSLA Branch W056 in Lonsdale (former

Catholic Workman Branch 56). Francis enjoyed fishing, going to Sunset Beach in Alexandria on

summer vacations with his family, and doing woodworking and puzzles. He was a handyman

who could repair anything and was always willing to lend a hand. His family was his pride and

joy. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, 6 children – Dwayne (Sandy) Tuma, Dianne Miller,

all of Lonsdale. Jeff (JoAnn) Tuma of Alexandria, Dan (Darlene) Tuma of LeCenter, Laurie

(Larry) Rumpza of Rosemount, Amy (Randy) Smisek of New Prague; 10 Grandchildren: Stacy

Kodada, Sarah Heller, Kyle Tuma, Megan Duffney, all of Lonsdale, Derrick Tuma of

Minneapolis, Kristina Tuma of Minnetonka, Emily Tuma of Bellingham, Washington, Mike

Miller of Lonsdale, Matthew and Anna Rumpza of Rosemount; 9(11) Great Grandchildren:

Mackenzie and Bradley Kodada, Logan, Greyson and Aubrey Heller, Damion, and Kyra

Duffney, Elliot and Helen Tuma, and Collin Tuma. He is also survived by Sisters-in-Law Betty

Tuma of Bloomington, and Dolores Tuma of Northfield; Brother and Sister-in-Laws Jeanne

(Arnie) Malecha of Northfield and Joe (Florence) Koldin of Montgomery; many Nieces and

Nephews, Relatives and Friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Albert, John

and Charlie, Son-in-Law David Miller, Father and Mother-in-Law Joseph and Mary Ann Koldin,

Brother and Sister-in-Law Henry and Rosemary Kaderlik and Sister-in-Law Angela Tuma. Mass

of Christian Burial, 10am Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the Church of the Immaculate

Conception in Lonsdale with Father McCabe officiating. Visitation from 4-8pm Tuesday at

White Funeral Home in Lonsdale. Casket Bearers are his Grandchildren; Honorary Casket

Bearers are his Great-Grandchildren. Interment: Calvary Cemetery in Lonsdale.
