Helen Ione Weckwerth


Helen Ione Weckwerth, age 92 of rural Arlington passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the

Oak Terrace Health Care Center of Gaylord. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday,

February 24, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Township with interment in the

Arlington Public Cemetery. Rev. William Postel will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from

4 to 7 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington and one hour prior to the service at the


Helen was born on July 15, 1921 to Robert and Tillie (Lossmann) Meyers in Faith, South

Dakota. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Faith, SD. She was confirmed

in 1940 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. She married Herman J. Weckwerth on

September 28, 1941 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Arlington. She was a member of the

St. John’s Ladies Aid for many years and read her Portals of Prayer daily. Helen and Herman

enjoyed dancing to Polkas and Waltzes. She, also, enjoyed cooking, baking, and was willing to

feed anyone at any time of the day or night. She was known to make the best caramel rolls and

cake. Helen wrote many journals throughout the years. She lovingly raised and cared for her

siblings, children, and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her children, Merlin (Shirley) Weckwerth of Midland, Texas, Richard

(Sandra) Weckwerth of Gaylord, Carol (Leonard) Tvedten of Fairmont and Gary (Debra)

Weckwerth of Arlington; 8 grandchildren, Janet Smith, James (Crystal) Weckwerth, Jay (Tami)

Weckwerth, Lisa Schilling, Susan Weckwerth (John Breen), Shari (Hector) Archila, Gina

(Richie) Kammer and Kaylee Weckwerth (sp. friend, Lance Messner); 5 great-grandchildren,

Troy and Chelsea Weckwerth, Jonathan Schilling, Alyssa Kellander and Bryan Archila; sister,

Vivian (Lawrence) Duenow; sisters-in-law, Frances Meyers and Joann Peterson and many nieces

and nephews.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman in 1987; sister, Marguerite (Dale)

Cannedy; brothers, Leonard, Donald, Milan and Benhart Meyers; brothers and sisters-in-law,

Alfred and Sabiena Weckwerth, Walter and Marion Weckwerth, Ed and Frieda Otto and Albert

and Anna Dittmer.
