James was born on September 7, 1937 in Rush River to Frank and Ann (Nussbaumer)

Pfarr. He attended Rush River country school and graduated from Le Sueur High

School in 1955. Jim married Bonnie Tuma on February 4, 1961 at St. Anne’s Church

in Le Sueur. He was proud to be a 4th

Sibley County Century farm. He was also a rural mail carrier. Jim served on the Le

Sueur School Board and also served as a township clerk. He was passionate about 4-

H and particularly the swine project where he served as a leader for 30 years. One of

the highlights of the year was the 4-H swine show at the Sibley County Fair. Jim loved

sports and played softball into his sixties and volunteered as an umpire. He was devoted

to St. Anne’s Church and school and was active in S.A.M.S., Patrons of St. Anne’s and

the Knights of Columbus. After his retirement Jim challenged himself to remain active

while living with Parkinson’s disease. He continued to help on the farm where he could,

garden, walk, spend time in the woods, hunt and read. He particularly enjoyed mentoring

and spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you for the loving care provided to our Dad by the

staff at Le Sueur Assisted Living and Mayo Health System Mankato Hospice.
