Le Sueur council hosts tobacco sale discussion 15 Aug 17

Le Sueur may consider ways to curb underage smoking, including raising the minimum age to buy tobacco.

The Le Sueur City Council hosted representatives from Nicollet County and the American Lung Association who gave the council information about the potential increase.

Sandra Renor, a public health nurse and educator for the Nicollet County Public Health Department, said that she has advocated to curb smoking for a long time and this newest initiative could be the next big thing in anti-smoking policy.

“There is little debate about whether [smoking] is harmful or not,” she said. “It is.”

Renor presented the council with a information about the problems that come from smoking, and the progress of the campaign to raise the age, Tobacco21.
