The beach at Lake Minnewashta Regional Park is closed due to elevated levels of E.coli, according to an Aug. 23 announcement from the Carver County Parks Department.

The closing was done as a precautionary measure, according to Parks and Trails Supervisor Sam Pertz. There have been no reports of illness or health impacts to users who have been at the beach.

The elevated level of E.coli could be due to of factors such as water temperature, storm water run-off, animals or other environmental conditions beyond the control of the county, according to a press release. The Parks Department will continue to test the water and plans to reopen the beach when levels have fallen within the acceptable range.

Pertz said he appreciates the public’s cooperation in closing the beach and apologizes for any inconvenience the closure has caused.
