The Latest: Body camera video shows dog running from officer 10 Jul 18

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Body camera video that was recorded when a St. Paul police dog bit a bystander shows the dog suddenly running from the officer as he shouts “No! No! No!”

Police say they were searching for an armed suspect Friday in the city’s Dayton Bluff neighborhood when the dog broke free of his collar and bit the man. He was not a suspect, but had been ordered to lie on the ground while police conducted their search.

The video released Monday shows the officer getting out of his car with the dog, and saying “Stay, stay.”

As the officer and dog begin walking, the dog runs toward the man. The bite itself cannot be seen on the video, but the man is heard groaning as officers try to get the dog to release him.

City officials said Monday they’ve called for tighter restrictions on when K-9s can be deployed and an external audit into the unit.
