The Tigers scored four times in the seventh and eighth innings to rally by the Twins, 7-6. Josh Willingham belted a pair of home run and totalled four RBI for Minnesota, which has lost nine straight. BRAVES SWEEP TWINS

Evan Gattis capped a five-run fourth inning with a grand slam as the Braves topped the Twins, 8-3, to sweep the three-game series. Aaron Hicks went 3-for-4 with a home run and Oswaldo Arcia added a pinch-hit shot in the ninth for Minnesota, which has lost eight in-a-row. Twins Option Worley To Rochester:

The Twins optioned pitcher Vance Worley to Triple-A Rochester following a disappointing outing on Wednesday in Atlanta. Worley was rocked for eight runs and 10 hits in just three-and-two-thirds innings as he fell to 1-and-5 on the season. His ERA is now 7.21 in 10 starts. The Twins will make a corresponding roster move on Friday.

Twins Place Plouffe On Seven-Day Concussion List:

The Twins placed third baseman Trevor Plouffe on the seven-day concussion disabled list on Wednesday and selected the contract of first baseman Chris Colabello from Triple-A Rochester. The team also transferred outfielder Darin Mastroianni to the 60-day DL.

BRAVES WIN IN 10TH

Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman singled in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning to lift the Braves past the Twins, 5-4, in the middle of a three-game series at Turner Field last night in Atlanta. Evan Gattis’ pinch-hit solo homer in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at four. Brian McCann went 3-for-4 with a solo shot and two RBI, while Freeman also drove in two for the Braves, who have won five in-a-row. Craig Kimbrel was credited with his first victory of the season. Justin Morneau, Ryan Doumit and Pedro Florimon all had two hits and an RBI for Minnesota, which has lost seven straight. Brian Duensing fell to 0-and-1 with the loss. BIG TEN BASEBALL AT TARGET FIELD

The top six baseball teams in the Big Ten Conference will visit the Twin Cities this week for the Big Ten Baseball Tournament at Target
Field, beginning on Wednesday. The University of Minnesota will open the tourney with a noon game on Wednesday against Illinois. The Golden Gophers are the No. 4 seed in the event. This will be the first time the Big Ten Tourney has ever been played in a Major League Baseball stadium. The tourney is a double-elimination format. Boston’s Dustin Pedroia belted a two-run homer and knocked in three as the Red Sox topped the Twins 5-1 to sweep the three-game series at a rainy Target Field. The game was delayed for more than three hours due to rain. Will Middlebrooks added a solo homer in Boston’s fifth straight win. John Lackey gave up an unearned run on one hit over six innings of work as he improved to 2-and-4. Trevor Plouffe [[ PLOOF ]] scored the lone run on a throwing error for the Twins, who have dropped five in-a-row. Joe Mauer saw his 15-game hitting streak end. Pedro Hernandez allowed three runs and nine hits in four-and-a-third frames as he slipped to 2-and-1. The Twins are at Atlanta tonight for a three-game interleague series. The Twins welcome the Boston Red Sox to Target Field for a three-game weekend series. The Twins had yesterday off after losing two-of-three to the White Sox with Wednesday’s 9-4 loss. Vance Worley, who is 1-and-4 with a 7.15 ERA, gets the ball in tonight’s opener. The BoSox will counter with 6-and-0 Clay Buchholz. Coverage begins at 6:40pm on 1350 AM KCHK.

TWINS GET BEAT, HOST BOSTON FRIDAY

Adam Dunn went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs and five RBI to help power the White Sox to a 9-4 win over the Twins at Target Field. Mike Pelfrey was tagged for five runs in four-plus frames to take the loss. Jamey Carroll went 3-for-5 with an RBI and Eduardo Escobar homered for Minnesota, which has lost three-of-four.

The Twins welcome the Boston Red Sox to Target Field for a three-game weekend series. It starts after an off day today. The BoSox are 23-and-17 and tied for second in the AL East.

TWINS CRUSH WHITE SOX

Minnesota rookie Aaron Hicks homered twice and stole a White Sox homer to help the Twins cruise by Chicago 10-3 last night in Minneapolis. Hicks homered in the fourth inning, then reached over the fence to take a home run away from White Sox slugger Adam Dunn in the top of the sixth inning, and followed that up by homering again himself in the bottom of the sixth inning. Justin Morneau knocked in four runs to help the winners and Trevor Plouffe drove in a pair of runs for the Twins, who have won five of their last seven. Pedro Hernandez gave up three runs in five-and-a-third innings as he improved to 2-and-0. Alex Rios plated two runs for the White Sox, who have lost three-of-four. Hector Santiago struck out six in five-and-two-thirds frames, but allowed six runs, three earned, on eight hits as he fell to 1-and-2. O’S BLANK TWINS

Chris Davis smacked a two-run homer and knocked in three as the Orioles blanked the Twins 6-0 in the rubber match of a three-game set at Target Field. Adam Jones and Steve Pearce both added solo homers for the O’s, who have won six of their last eight. Wei-Yin Chen tossed five shutout innings to even his record at 3-and-3. Joe Mauer had two of the eight hits for the Twins, who had won three in-a-row coming into this series. Scott Diamond was tagged for six runs and nine hits in five-and-two-thirds frames as he fell to 3-and-3. The Twins host the White Sox tonight. Orioles left-hander Wei-Yin Chen left yesterday’s start with a right oblique strain. The O’s initial hope is that the injury could just be a cramp, but Chen could miss a few weeks with the strain. He is scheduled to be re-evaluated today. Chen is 3-and-3 this year with a 3.04 ERA in eight starts

Trevor Plouffe, Justin Morneau and Pedro Florimon each had three RBI as the Twins outslugged the Red Sox 15-8 last night in Boston. Ryan Doumit and Aaron Hicks each added a pair of runs batted in. Plouffe had three hits and scored two runs and Florimon homered and doubled. Doumit added four hits, including a two-run homer, and scored three runs. Joe Mauer had a pair of doubles and scored three times for the Twins, who have won three of their last four. Ryan Pressly earned his first career win after tossing four scoreless innings of relief. Jonny Gomes went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and Shane Victorino added a pair of hits including a solo homer. The Red Sox have dropped five of their last six games. The same two teams wrap up the four-game series tonight at Fenway Park, coverage begins at 5:40pm on AM 1350 KCHK.

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz, a former Twin, had his hitting streak halted at 27 games dating back to last season. Ortiz was 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday. The longest hitting streak by a Red Sox player is 34 games set by outfielder Dom DiMaggio in 1949. His brother Joe DiMaggio owns the all-time streak at 56 games set in 1941.
