VIKE’S SIGN 3 DRAFT PICKS

The Vikings have signed three of their nine 2013 draft picks. The team inked linebackers Gerald Hodges and Michael Mauti and defensive tackle Everett Dawkins. Hodges was a fourth round selection, while Mauti and Dawkins were both taken in the seventh round.

VIKES RELEASE NEW STADIUM DESIGN

The Minnesota Vikings have released the design of their new 975-million-dollar multi-purpose stadium. The design package will now be submitted to the Minneapolis Stadium Implementation Committee and the city of Minneapolis for review. The stadium features the largest transparent roof in the world and operable doors to the downtown skyline. The clear roof will be permanent and will allow natural sunshine into most areas of the stadium. The new venue will be capable of hosting baseball, basketball, soccer games, and more. Groundbreaking for the new 65-thousand seat stadium will begin in October with a scheduled opening in time for the 2016 NFL season. The Vikings recently reached a deal with the University of Minnesota to play in TCF Bank Stadium for the 2014 and 2015 seasons during construction.

Vikings OTAs Later In Month

The Vikings will host Organized Team Activities later this month at Winter Park. Every NFL team can ask its players to take part in ten such days of organized off-season training, although they are not mandatory workouts. The first set of three OTA’s are scheduled for May 28-30 before seven more are set for the month of June. The team’s mandatory mini-camp is slated for June 18-20.

VIKINGS DRAFT NINE PLAYERS

The Vikings picked up nine players in the NFL Draft over the weekend and signed another 16 undrafted rookies. After trading up to get three first rounders on Thursday, the Vikings didn’t have a pick in the second or third rounds on Friday. They chose linebacker Gerald Hodges in the fourth round Saturday, as well as punter Jeff Locke in round five.

FL DRAFT, VIKING PARTY TONIGHT

Tonight is a night Minnesota Vikings fans have been waiting for since the season ended in January. It is NFL Draft Night and, for now, the Purple will have two first-round selections. Minnesota owns the No. 23 and No. 25 overall choices in the opening round. General manager Rick Spielman says there is enough depth in the draft that he foresees the team getting quality players at both spots. Team needs include linebacker, wide receiver, defensive back and defensive tackle, among other positions.

Hundreds of Vikings fans will gather tonight at the Metrodome for the team’s NFL Draft Party. Fans will find former Vikings who will sign autographs at the party, as well as indoor games, food and beverage, sponsor booths and other things. The highlight of the party is slated to be the unveiling of the new Vikings uniforms for the coming season. WINFIELD SIGNS WITH SEATTLE

The Seattle Seahawks have agreed to a one-year contract with cornerback Antonie Winfield. The 35-year-old Ohio State product comes over after nine seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. He spent his first five NFL seasons with the Buffalo Bills, who drafted him 23rd overall in 1999. Last season, Winfield registered 100 tackles and half a sack to go with three interceptions. He has over one thousand tackles and 27 picks in his career.

VIKE’S PRESEASON DATES ANNOUNCED

The Vikings announced the dates for their four preseason games yesterday. The club hosts Houston on August 9th at Mall of America Field. They Vikings travel to Buffalo on August 16th and to San Francisco on August 25th. They will close out exhibition play August 29th at home against Tennessee.

VIKES NEW UNIFORMS, SIGN MITCHELL

The Vikings are making changes to their uniforms. The new look will be unveiled at the team’s draft party on Thursday, April 25th. It will be the first uniform change for the Vikings since 2006, when the horns on the helmet were shaded to give them a three-dimensional look.

The Vikings officially re-signed linebacker Marvin Mitchell on Thursday. The 28-year-old posted nine total tackles in 11 games last season, his first in Minnesota. Mitchell has 128 tackles and two sacks over his six-year career. In other team news, wide receiver Michael Jenkins signed with the Patriots.

RULE CHANGES

NFL owners are approving a pair of noteworthy rule changes. It will now be a penalty if an offensive player leads with the crown of his helmet when outside the tackle box. The league is also getting rid of the infamous tuck rule. According to NFL Network, both rule changes passed by an overwhelming margin.

VIKE’S SIGN JENNINGS & CASSEL

The Vikings have landed free agent wide receiver Greg Jennings. The former Green Bay Packers star has agreed to a five-year deal. Jennings only played in eight games due to injuries last season. The 29-year has 425 receptions for more than 65-hundred yards and 53 touchdowns since joining the NFL in 2006.

The Vikings are bringing in quarterback Matt Cassel to become Christian Ponder’s backup. The 30-year-old Cassel was the starter in Kansas City for the past four seasons. He played just 18 games over the past two seasons due to injury and ineffectiveness.

VIKE’S SIGN CASSELL

The Vikings reportedly signed a quarterback on Thursday as they land former Chiefs QB Matt Cassell. ESPN is reporting Cassell signed a one-year, four-million dollar deal to back up starting quarterback Christian Ponder. Cassell was cut by the Chiefs on Thursday to make room for the recently acquired Alex Smith. The Vikings are also rumored to be wooing Green Bay free agent wide receiver Greg Jennings. The Vikings did sign two unrestricted free agents on Thursday as they inked center Joe Berger along with defensive back Jamarca Sanford.
