−Memorial Blood Drive1:00 pm – 6:30 pm
Mayo Clinic Health System in New Prague will once again be hosting a Memorial Blood Centers of Minnesota community blood drive on Wednesday, May 2, from 1 – 6:30 p.m. The drive will be held at Queen’s Court, 311 Columbus Ave N, New Prague, directly across from the Hospital.Memorial Blood Centers draws blood in our community, tests it in our community and gives it back to our community. This ensures that the needs of area hospitals are met.
Memorial Blood Centers has been collecting and distributing blood for more than 50 years and is a member of America’s Blood Centers. They need at least 400 units of blood each day to meet the needs of area hospitals.
Donors can give blood every 56 days. Eligible donors can also do an Alyx (double red blood cell donation). The Alyx Component Collection System allows you to give two units of red blood cells during a single donation. The Alyx donation experience is much like donating whole blood. Blood is drawn using a needle (a smaller one than that used in a whole blood donation) through a continuous procedure of intermittent draw and fluid return. Continuously, whole blood is drawn and separated into components, while your plasma and saline are replaced. This fluid replacement is to ensure that you have a comfortable experience. To qualify as a donor with the Alyx System, men must be at least 5’ 1” and weigh at least 130 pounds, and women must be at least 5’ 5” and weigh at least 150 pounds. Both must have a hematocrit of at least 40%. You can make an Alyx donation every 16 weeks.
To make an appointment, call the Hospital at 952-758-8190. A light lunch will be provided for donors.

−28th Annual Dozinky Festival10:00 am – 5:00 pm
28th Annual Dozinky Festival
Saturday, September 15, 2012
New Prague, MNCongratulations to Roman & Tony Dorzinski – Parade of Farm Pride Grand Marshals!
Dožínky® (doe-shink’-key), a Czech Harvest Festival patterned after the “Old Country” original, is held on the third Saturday of September each year in New Prague.
Our city’s beautiful Main Street is transformed into an open-air market with vendor booths lining the sidewalks and a beer garden featuring authentic Czech beer. You can sample tasty treats including traditional Czech dishes. Food booths and events open at 10 a.m. and close at 5 p.m. Main Street will be closed to through traffic, making your strolling safer and visiting more pleasant. No carry-in alcohol, dogs, bikes or golf carts are allowed.
The Dožínky® Festival in the Czech Republic is celebrated annually to give thanks for the bountiful harvest. Similarly, New Prague honors its agricultural roots with the Parade of Farm Pride at noon with a line-up of antique and modern farm equipment, cars, bands and horse-drawn units.
Both children and adults will enjoy the special events planned for the day, including many demonstrators and entertainers. Ethnic bands on three separate stages will keep the crowd tapping their feet non-stop. Be sure to stop by the Czech Village and the Czech Heritage Club. Authentic Czech dancers and singers will also share their talents; the New Prague Czech Singers will delight the crowd, and peruse authentic Czech merchandise.
Admission to the festival and most activities is free.
